Managing Affiliate Products

How do you manage adding products to your affiliate sites? It’s something that has been on my mind for a while now, and has come up again tonight. Being a developer I want to automate it, but I also know that doing that is not the best way (duplicate content, no quality control over what goes in, etc.). Now, I only have a small niche site that I’m trying to do something with, but I don’t know how to add ‘products’ to it.

Do I; a) Go to the merchants site, find the product, find a large image of it, save the image to my pc for a bit of resizing then uploading to my site, write a description of it on my site, add prices, then create a deeplink for it manually, or b) Do the same, but work through a feed and add products from that perspective, or c) use an automated feed importer, and re-write content as I go…

What do YOU do?

I had the same thought when I started building sites and use two options depending on the type of site.

If it is a small niche site with limited products I will rewrite the product description and pad the information out as much as possible sometimes getting someone to rewrite the descriptions for me as it is so monotonous.

For larger sites with too many products I tend to add a shop section to the site with datafeeds and write content for the site that then links to products or categories. I don’t see duplicate content being a big issue as you can always block that part of the site off from the search engines and concentration on writing content to rank for the necessary key words.

I think it all depends on the type of site you are creating.
